Jon Bon Jovi says he had 'no idea' his daughter Stephanie Rose Bongiovi was taking heroin.
The 19-year-old reportedly overdosed in New York last month, but is now out of hospital.
Her star dad is 'confident' she'll beat her addiction. 'I'm shocked as much as the next parent with this situation and had no idea,' the 50-year-old told reporters ahead of his Hurricane Sandy benefit concert in Madison Square Garden next week.
He added: 'Steph is a great kid... She was doing great. Then a sudden and steep decline.
'But then you surround them (your children) with best help and love and move on, and that's where we're at with it.'
Bon Jovi said he worked hard to raise his daughter but was prepared if things didn't quite turn out how he had expected.
'I didn't have any sisters. We bring home this girl the first day. Now what? Where's the manual? There was no manual. So you bring her up the best you can, you surround her with hugs and kisses and know that she may eventually fall down,' he said.
'Hopefully, we caught it when we did and that's the end of it,' he added.
