Christopher Maloney's nan has hit out at X Factor judge Louis Walsh's tactical jibes and admitted the hurtful comments Chris has been bombarded with are keeping her awake at night.

She's been Chris' number one fan from the off and even got a bit of air time at his first audition, but now the Scouse singer's 76-year-old grandma Pat has taken matters in to her own hands.

Speaking about the feedback the 34-year-old former cruise ship singer has received from Louis, Tulisa Contostavlos and Nicole Scherzinger over the past few weeks, she raged: 'It's like bullying. Nobody else on the show gets those comments.'

But Pat is convinced the dastardly trio are slagging off Christopher because he is a threat to their own personal favourites still in the running.

'It's a tactic, I think. It's one way of swaying the votes,' she added.

However, it's the Irish music manager who really got under her skin when he poked fun at Chris' performance of Abba's Fernando last week.

She continued: 'I could cry sometimes. Even when they do say he has sung well they criticise something else, like the dancers.

'He didn't pick the dancers.'

'I asked Louis Walsh afterwards, I said, "Why, Louis?"

'I just looked at him and said, "A smile costs nothing you know, Louis".

'And he just said, "It's a show, it's just entertainment. It's a Saturday night TV show and that's what the public want to hear".

'The pressure on Christopher has also put stress on me. Sometimes I can't sleep,' she told The Mirror.

'It upsets me when the judges say unpleasant things to him. He's human, he's got a heart – and a kind word costs nothing.'

Chris will go head to head with Jahmene Douglas, Union J and James Arthur in tonight's semi-final at 8pm on ITV1.
