Welsh MPs slam The Valleys after MTV 'cheap and tacky' series launches

Two Welsh MPs have rounded on The Valleys, a new MTV series that they say gave in inaccurate representation of Wales.

The Valleys aired last night for the first time, bringing a taste of Geordie Shore to Wales as it followed a group of young people moving from small towns to pursue their dreams in Cardiff.

And although the inaugural episode received praise from some MTV fans, it seems the constant stream of boob-flashing and genitalia-discussing didn't please everyone.

In fact, Welsh MP Chris Bryant was left fuming after the programme aired, complaining that it presented an unfair portrayal of the sleepy Welsh valleys.

'It's called The Valleys but it doesn't happen in the Valleys, it happened in Cardiff,' Bryant told Wales Online.

'It's all about people getting very drunk and being as deliberately outrageous as they possibly can be. That's not what the Valleys are like.

'You would have thought they would have had at least one person that liked the Valleys on a programme called The Valleys.

'It gives the impression there's no life in the Valleys whereas actually the vast majority of people of working age in the Valleys work and have a very nice home.'

Meanwhile, Plaid Cymru leader Leanne Wood slammed the series, calling it 'a dull, cheap, tacky and over-promoted television programme'.

She added: 'I think people from MTV should maybe come to the Valleys to see what it is really like.'
