Strictly Come Dancing contestant Johnny Ball has been left without a dance partner after Aliona Vilani suffered a fractured ankle during rehearsals.
The 28-year-old dancer sustained the hairline fracture while practising a tango routine with the veteran TV presenter - with reports suggested she had fallen after Ball took a wrong turn and their legs became entangled.
According to reports Aliona - who steered Harry Judd to victory in the 2011 series - will be unable to appear in the first live show, and could be out of action for as long as a month - leaving producers in a last-minute scramble to find Ball a replacement partner.
She let out a huge yelp and fell to the floor clutching her leg — which swelled up like a balloon,' a source told The Sun. 'The on-site doctor looked at her, but she was still in loads of pain.
'She went to hospital where they found she had a fracture. Johnny is devastated.'
The Kazakh-born dancer later tweeted a photo of herself looking mournful, saying, 'I got injured'.
She has since kept her followers updated, remaining upbeat about her recovery despite being on crutches.
'Tweeting from my sick bed - but don't worry I'm being a good patient,' she said. 'I'm sure in a couple weeks rest, I'll be fine.'
Aliona is not the first professional dancer to sustain an injury while in training.
Last year Artem Chigvintsev suffered a soft tissue injury in his spine - initially thought to be a fracture - leaving his celebrity partner Holly Valance to team up with Brendan Cole while he took time off to recover.
