Emma Watson made a misguided style choice at the gala screening of The Perks Of Being A Wallflower, by turning up to the glitzy bash wearing a weird dress-and-trousers combination.

The usually on-trend star still looked effortlessly glamorous, despite her odd outfit choice, as she graced the red carpet of the screening, held at London's Mayfair Hotel.

Red carpet events usually call for female stars to dig out a glitzy dress or, on occasion, a smart, designer suit.

But Emma clearly couldn't decide between the two wardrobe staples so opted to work both.

Wearing a simple Dior black strapless dress with a sweetheart neckline, which also served to highlight her ample cleavage, Emma also wore a pair of fitted black trousers.

She teamed the look with some pointed black stilettos and wore her hair pinned back at the sides in glamorous fashion.

The Harry Potter star kept her make-up neutral for the event and wore simple jewellery, as if she had planned to let the outfit do all of the talking.

Perhaps 22-year-old Emma felt the dress was a little short to wear with bare legs. Or maybe she though it was a clever way to avoid the chill.

The Perks Of Being A Wallflower is Watson's first major role since her days as Hermione in the Harry Potter series.

Based on Stephen Chbosky's novel of the same name, it is a coming-of-age drama.

And the pretty actress has admitted how 'liberating' it was trying out a new character on-screen.

Speaking at the gala screening last night, she said: 'It was challenging. I was very nervous.

'Having played someone who was so restrained and very English to playing this free-spirited American girl, which was at the other end of the spectrum for me, it took a while to break down a lot of the barriers I didn't even realise I had put up for myself.

'So when I did, it felt very liberating. I'm very proud of the film.'
