Tennis ace Maria Sharapova has revealed she is single again after breaking off her engagement to Sasha Vujacic.
Slovenian basketball star Vujacic became the envy of men around the world when the former Wimbledon champion agreed to marry him in 2010.
Their relationship is now over, after their careers got in the way.
Sharapova, 25, confirmed the break-up during a press conference at the US Open.
'It was obviously a challenging decision, you know, from both of our ends,' the Russian said.
'We have a tremendous amount of respect for each other. I still would love to call him a friend. We spent really great years together.'
Sharapova has enjoyed a fantastic year on the court, winning the French Open and reaching the Australian Open final, but has found it difficult to spend any time with Vujacic.
The 28-year-old had spells with Los Angeles Lakers and New Jersey Nets earlier in his career, before he joined Turkish club Anadolu Efes last summer.
'It was a really nice period of time for both of us, but, you know, our career schedules just made it extremely difficult to see each other,' Sharapova added.
'He wasn't able to travel much. He wasn't home one time during the ten months that he was in Turkey, so that made it extremely difficult.'
The break-up does not seem to have affected Sharapova's tennis, as she has reached the fourth round of the US Open without dropping a set.
