X Factor hopeful Melanie Masson has revealed that auditioning for The X Factor was the scariest moment of her life, just as reports emerge saying the hopeful has already been signed to EMI and has worked with indie group Kasabian.
Masson added that she was worried that she would get a resounding 'no' from judges Gary Barlow, Tulisa Contostavlos, Louis Walsh and Anastasia when she sang Janis Joplin's Cry Baby during the most recent programme.
Speaking to Holly and Phil on This Morning, she said: 'It was amazing and to be part of it.... to actually be there it was the most terrifying moment of my life, I just didn't know if they would like me or if I was right for the show.
'But I have been singing all my life really, I started in bands at 15and have been trying to get a record deal for years and years.
'I did everything I could to make money to get into the studio - I got a development deal at 26 which was probably quite late anyway and then got dropped.'
However the judges may dislike her for a different reason soon, as sources have revealed that mum Masson has been working as singer for fifteen years, and has a record deal with EMI and has worked with a number of professional musicians, including Kasabian, Stereophonics, Fatboy Slim and Pink.
A source told The Sun: 'I was horrified there wasn't one mention that she's been in the music industry for years. They're duping the public.'
However, Mel defended herself to the newspaper, saying: 'I had a brief deal with EMI 18 years ago but was dropped after a year. I've never really had that big break to shine as an individual. This is my last chance.'
ITV1 defended the decision to allow Melanie to audition, stating that The X Factor's only requirements for hopefuls is that they are over sixteen and do not currently have a record deal.
