Kimberley Walsh has claimed the Duchess of Cornwall will be voting for her in the current series of Strictly Come Dancing.

The Girls Aloud star met Camilla at a Clarence House event where the duchess, a fan of the BBC One show, said she would be voting for her.

Kimberley attended the event set up to thank those figures who had worked as Diamond Champions ambassadors, encouraging others to volunteer for the charity WRVS (Women's Royal Voluntary Service).

As well as meeting Camilla, Walsh was also lucky enough to spend some time with Prince Charles yesterday afternoon.

The singer was clearly excited about her day out and before she arrived, tweeted: 'Afternoon tea with the Duchess of Cornwall at Clarence House then off to my first dance lesson!#scd.'

She later took to Twitter ahead of her rehearsals to fill fans in about the backing Camilla had offered.

She wrote: 'Ooh Charles was there too. Camilla said she'll vote for me on Strictly. Ha! Right, time to get my dancing shoes on.'

Camilla is no stranger to the show, having visited the Strictly studios last year to watch a dress rehearsal, courtesy of an invite from one of the show's judges, Craig Revel Horwood.

In last weekend's launch show, Kimberley was teamed with partner Pasha Kovalev and she is thought by many to be one of the favourites thanks to

The 30-year-old is certainly putting in the hours to ensure her twinkle toes shine through as she has set aside plenty of time for rehearsals.

Following her tea, she had her first gruelling day on the dance-floor and tweeted: 'Hi guys! Still smiling at the end of our first day of rehearsal! Dancing is so much fun!!! #scd'

Saturday's show managed to attract the highest launch audience seen for three years with partners being introduced to one another and participants to the public.

Olympic gymnast Louis Smith is currently tipped to be the winner of the show.
