The Spice Girls: We have our ups and downs, but we still like each other

The Spice Girls have insisted they're still one big sister act at the launch of their new musical Viva Forever.

Plagued by rumours of infighting and with them living oceans apart, the quintet attempted to rubbish talk they are strangers as they launched Viva Forever together.

'We like each other at the end of the day. Whatever is said,' insisted Mel B, 38, who is said to rub Victoria Beckham, 38, up the wrong way. 'We didn't have bad days.'

Geri Halliwell, 39, wouldn't have a bad word said, insisting only they were allowed to slag each other off.

'Isn't it funny when you get together like family,' said Ginger. 'To all the press out there. Only we are allowed to criticise each other, no one else is. We're like family.'

But struggling to get a word in edgeways was Victoria Beckham, who gave a glimpse of the real dynamic when Geri wouldn't shut up.

Looking zippy in one of her own creations, Posh piped up with a sarcastic wry smile, saying: 'I think Geri's really funny. Does anybody else?'

But Geri insisted jokes like that were just their girlie banter.

'We actually do have a good time together when it is just us lot. I laugh a lot. We're really fun.'

After huffing out of the girl group back in their heyday Geri said the tension was 'a sign of friendship through ups and downs.'

She added: 'We have children now and that is something else that can unite us.'

Of the new project she said: 'It's not about us. It's the essence of the Spice Girls. What it's about is motherhood, friendship and there is a little bit of how you juggle between success and friendship.'

Emma Bunton, 36, backed up Geri's happy-happy claims. 'We regress and turn into kids and have fun,' said Baby. 'It feels natural when we get back together.'

Sporty, 38, added: 'The thing is with us girls is we have a long-standing friendship and we're in touch and we see each other as often as we can. We don't get to do things like this very often.'

But while the others were planning a catch-up lunch, Posh couldn't hang around as she was jumping straight back on the plane to her home in Los Angeles.
