Robert Pattinson was in good spirits as he dodged the hotly anticipated Kristen Stewart interrogation in his first TV interview since it emerged she cheated on him with Snow White And The Huntsman director Rupert Sanders.
Taking the recent furore in his stride, R-Pattz handled his interview on The Daily Show With Jon Stewart incredibly well considering the circumstances.
'What have you been up to?' Stewart jokingly began.
'I thought we'd already prepared this. I had a joke prepared!' Pattinson protested, feigning dismay. 'God damn it. I was all set up and ready to go. Now it's meaningless.'
'OK, let's just do this,' the host continued, as two tubs of Ben & Jerry's and a couple of spoons materialised.
'Now, we're just a couple of gals talking,' Stewart teased. 'All right...Tell me everything.'
Skirting over his relationship woes, R-Pattz replied: 'I'm trying to avoid eating this, I'm going to split my Spanx. I'm double spanxed!'
After laughs from the audience, the host continued: 'So what are we doing here? Are you all right? Is everything OK? I'm worried about you.'
Still unwilling to open up, Rob joked: 'My biggest problem in my life is I'm cheap. I didn't hire a publicist and every awkward interview, most actors have things scripted. I'm going to hire a publicist.'
'I think you should,' Stewart agreed, 'unless you get a time machine...'
'Either way,' Pattinson replied.
Ploughing on, Stewart continued: 'Listen, the last time I had a bad breakup, Ben and Jerry got me through some of the tougher times.
'So, I thought you and I could bond over this and talk about, "Boy, you are better off, kick her to the curb. Whatevah!"'
Speaking in a more serious tone, he added: 'When you are young and you break up it's powerful and it feels like the world is ending. This is the first time I have seen the world actually react that way. It's insanity.
'Here is my wish for you, that you get to handle your business in private, in your personal life, and I wish you all the best.'
Assuming the interview was coming to a close, R-Pattz chipped in: 'I should've talked about Cosmopolis!'
The duo then went on to talk about the 26-year-old Brit's upcoming movie
Stewart joked viewers had left to make a sandwich after the pair switched their line of conversation, before Rob teased: 'There is one thing... '
He continued: 'If any Twilight fans are tuning in, I genuinely want to make Cosmopolis have a higher opening weekend than The Dark Knight (Rises).
'But it's only released in six cinemas so it's going to be a challenge. Just buy eight tickets each!'
