Lucy, who came out at age 14, was seen on Saturday's show where she performed a self-written track Last Night, which is a song about her antics whilst drunk.

She is now hoping the fame off the back of the show will ensure she doesn't stay single for too much longer.

'X Factor must do wonders for your love life,' she said. 'Girls do love girls with guitars.'

Lucy, 20, also revealed how delighted her mum was when she told her she was gay as it made her feel 'cool'.

She added: 'My mum loves gay people, she thinks she's part of the cool club now.

'But grandad only found out I was gay on Google.'

Lucy's song was such a hit with judges and audiences alike on Saturday that it has now creeped to the number two spot on the iTunes chart.

She hit the iTunes chart just hours after her audition was screened on the ITV1 show.

The singer from Sheffield released the track - which she told the judges was about 'beer fear' - for download last year, and it also features on her independently released album Top Room At The Zoo.

Lucy even impressed guest judge Mel B, who has a reputation for being harsh with the hopeful acts.

Mel B told Lucy: 'I absolutely loved it! You don't know how great you are - and that's what's endearing as well, you've got like a little bit of vulnerability about you, be confident, you are brilliant!'

And Tulisa added: 'You have completely and utterly got me sold, that song there is going straight on my ipod.'
