Lady Gaga has stepped out to bat for Kristen Stewart in the wake of the shocking revelations of her affair with married film director Rupert Sanders.
The 26-year-old singer tweeted: '@Geez this kirstew rob stuff is brutal. Makes me sad the way press acts. Hope they're ok.'
The controversial singer wasn't alone in her sympathy as many fans tweeted their support for Stewart.
One wrote: 'Really disgusted with all the hype around Kristen Stewart's affair. It is private. The media can be such vultures.
'Thoughts out to her & Rob.'
Another read: 'Kristen Stewart's press release, "I love him, I love him, I'm so sorry" sounds like she means it to me.'
Earlier in the week Kristen confirmed rumours that she had indulged in an affair with Snow White And The Huntsman director Sanders.
She said in a statement: 'I'm deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I've caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected.
'This momentary indiscretion has jeopardised the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob.
'I love him, I love him, I'm so sorry.'
