Confusion surrounds reports in the US that Kristen Stewart was pictured in a compromising position with director Rupert Sanders, after his wife's apparent counter-claims that the picture was actually of her were themselves refuted.
Model Liberty Ross, who is married to Snow White And The Huntsman director Sanders, reportedly phoned an Australian radio station after US Weekly magazine published what it claimed were shots of the 41-year-old holding Stewart in his arms.
Ross - who has two children aged seven and five with the director - is reported to have told B105 Brisbane that it was her in the photos, not Stewart.
'That is me in the picture. It is a sad part of being in this industry,' she is reported to have said of the snaps.
However, the radio station has since denied any knowledge of the interview taking place while film fans have continued to further feed the rumour mill by re-tweeting the quotes as fact on social networking site Twitter.
The confusion over the story runs ever deeper, too, after the US magazine removed the story from its website, while Ross has apparently deleted her Twitter account.
A day earlier, Ross had re-tweeted a Marilyn Monroe quote from the Women of History account, which read: 'Sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.'
The original story alleged that Stewart - who is 19 years younger than Sanders - had cheated on boyfriend Robert Pattinson with the director a week ago, with a witness alleging the pair 'couldn't get enough' of each other.
Stewart and Pattinson, a famously limelight-shy who revealed in February 2010 that they were a couple, will soon be reunited on screen in Twilight Breaking Dawn - Part 2, which is due for release in November.
The round of premières for that film are planned to take place later this year.
