Former X Factor consultant Chris Herbert has denied he tried to profit from the notorious Tulisa Contostavlos sex tape.
Herbert was close to Simon Cowell, but lost his job on the ITV1 talent show after being implicated in Justin Edwards' plot to cash in on the mobile phone footage of the ex-N-Dubz singer.
He has now hit back at claims he was part of a conspiracy to make £500,000 by selling the steamy clip of Edwards and his former girlfriend Tulisa on the internet.
Hebert was Edwards' manager and insisted he tried to talk his client out of releasing the tape.
'My reputation and business has been ruined by these unsavoury people. I never tried to make a penny,' he told the Sun.
'I am so sorry to her for any part I may have played in this horrible saga. I was disgusted by the whole thing and from day one advised Justin not to do anything with the tape.'
Herbert added he had even asked a lawyer to explain to Edwards - who performs under the name MC Ultra - he would be sued if he went ahead with the plan.
'To be honest, I wish I'd never set eyes on the idiot,' he said.
Herbert, 41, now wants Cowell to let him return to The X Factor, so he can explain what happened to Tulisa in person.
Edwards failed in his efforts to get rich by selling the tape, as only six people paid to see it, netting him a grand total of £23.76.
