Tom Cruise's lawyer has threatened to sue the National Enquirer over a cover story that claimed the actor was a 'monster' who 'abused' wife Katie Holmes.

Bert Fields wrote a letter slamming its publisher for printing 'false and vicious' lies that could damage the actor's reputation.
His missive to American Media Inc, reprinted in The Hollywood Reporter, added: 'Mr Cruise is certainly not a monster. He is a caring father, a hard-working actor and an honest, decent man.
Contrary to your blaring headlines Mr Cruise has not engaged in any abuse or humiliation of Katie Holmes.'
Cruise, 50, and Holmes, 33, this week agreed on the terms of their divorce.
