Flack was pursued by the mysterious man who reportedly turned up at her place of work with gifts, and constantly attempted to touch her.

The Sun reports the stalker has been arrested and is currently on bail awaiting further questioning.

A source told the newspaper: 'It's been a pretty stressful past few weeks for Caroline.

But now the police are involved, she hopes the matter will soon be resolved and she can move on with her life.'

Reports say Flack's first encounter with the stalker was when he turned up at the X Factor auditions in Manchester after sending her a series of letters.

He also monitored her Twitter account to keep track of her location, where he would then turn up and try to see her.

A spokeswoman for the Met Police said on the issue: 'A 39-year-old man was arrested and questioned, and has been bailed until mid-August pending further investigation'.

This year has been a somewhat troublesome one for the Xtra Factor presenter, following her much-publicised break-up with teen singer Harry Styles of One Direction.

Flack hit back at her critics on Twitter, who lashed out at her over their relationship.

In a bid to publicise the sort of abuse she was receiving, Flack repeated one particularly threatening comment on her Twitter account after news of the pair's supposed split surfaced.

The message read: 'You Broke harrys heart... now we will broke your face...'. She responded with a curt 'Nice'.
