Breaking Dawn Part 2 director Bill Condon has urged Twilight fans to show respect to Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson in light of the recent cheating scandal.
'Robsten' fans everywhere were left devastated after Kristen issued a statement apologising for her 'momentary indiscretion' last month, after it was revealed she had cheated on Rob with Snow White And The Huntsman director Rupert Sanders.
Many swiftly turned against the 22-year-old actress, but director Condon has asked fans to support the young star.
Urging fans to separate the real-life actors and their on-screen personas, he told Entertainment Weekly: 'The fact is, these are actors playing parts, and maybe it's not such a bad thing that people be reminded of that.'
Reminding fans that Kristen and Robert have always made time for Twilight enthusiasts, he added: 'Both of these actors gave heart and soul to the Twilight movies, not only during shooting, but also by navigating so graciously the whole life-in-a-fishbowl aspect of the phenomenon.'
'Above all they have always shown great respect for the fans who made these movies such a success.
'Now it's time that some of that respect be returned to them.'
The pair's relationship is thought to be on the rocks following the scandal, with removal vans recently snapped outside the couple's LA home.
But regardless of the couple's private issues, the pair will have to reunite soon to promote the final instalment of The Twilight Saga, which hits cinemas this November.
Studio Summit said last week: 'While it is studio policy not to comment on the personal lives of actors, Summit is moving full steam ahead and looking forward to this November's opening of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2.'
This week it was revealed Stewart has pulled out of the UK premiere of her new film On The Road, but Pattinson is expected to be back on the red carpet for the US premiere of his latest film Cosmopolis on August 13.
