Chris Evans swapped his Ferrari for a more sedate form of transport as he drove the car from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang through central London.
The Radio 2 DJ paid almost £500,000 for the classic vehicle which starred in the 1968 film.
Evans was spotted in the open top motor after finishing his breakfast show.
And in an echo of its fictional inventor Caractacus Potts, he wore a tweed jacket with smoking scarf, a turquoise shirt with car motif, houndstooth cap and sturdy brown walking boots.
Written by Roald Dahl, and based on a story by James Bond inventor Ian Fleming, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang tells the story of hapless Potts, played by Dick Van Dyke, who eventually finds success with a car that sprouts wings.
There were several cars made for the film, but the only one that worked was designed by Ken Adam, who also made sets for the Bond films. It was built by the Ford Racing Team with power coming from a Ford three-litre V6 engine.
The 5.2m (17ft) long car has dashboard plate from a World War I fighter plane. Its distinctive bodywork is crafted from red and white cedar wood and its fittings are taken from Edwardian cars.
It has spent the past 30 years touring the country for charities but before coming into Evans's possession the car reportedly belonged to a friend of his who bought it without realising it wouldn't fit in his garage. Evans bought it in January and has had to pay out more to make it roadworthy.
