One Direction's Zayn Malik has confirmed that he deleted his Twitter account after tiring of rumours about him smoking weed and cheating on girlfriend Perrie Edwards.
A spokesman for the couple refused to make any comment while Wings songstress Perrie, who celebrated Eid with Zayn's family, insisted she'd still fulfil interview commitments this week.
An upset Zayn, 19, told friends on social messenger Kik: 'Don't worry about me, im fine. i just deleted my account because of all the hate i was getting just by tweeting something simple.
'And all the rumours of me smoking weed and cheating. i dont need to read any of that negativ- ity.' A screen shot of his private explanation was posted on Twitter.
Ahead of his dramatic exit from Twitter, The One Thing singer hit out at Twitter trolls and their relentless slurs.
Nevertheless, the 19-year-old hitmaker was keen to assure fans that he would still be contactable via the band's official account.
He wrote: 'The reason I don't tweet as much as I use to, is because I'm sick of all the useless opinions and hate that I get daily goodbye twitter.
And added: 'Fans that have something nice to say can tweet me on the one direction account.'
Shorty afterwards distraught Directioners around the globe got #comebackZayn and #Zayncomeback trending on the micro-blogging site.
Zayn is believed to have deleted his account after fans attacking his relationship with Little Mix's Perrie Edwards got too much.
Angry taunts have only escalated since the Olympics closing ceremony where it was alleged the teen had given his number to a dancer that had caught his eye.
But those close to Zayn have insisted the teenage couple are more in love than ever.
A source told the Daily Mirror: 'They couldn't be happier, it's ridiculous that anyone thinks otherwise.
'When they're together it's like excited teenagers getting together for the first time.'
Perrie deleted her Twitter account in May for similar reasons.
The Wings singer now shares Little Mix's official account with her bandmates Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall.
She visited Zayn's home in Bradford on Sunday to celebrate Eid with his family.
