One Direction fans everywhere (well, on Twitter) are rejoicing after bandmember Zayn Malik performed a U-turn to return to the social networking site - just 24 hours after quitting because he was being bombarded with abusive messages.
The boyband star has restarted his Twitter account, and garnered more than 650,000 followers within an hour of his first tweet.
Zayn originally quit after he was inundated with vitriolic messages, some relating to his relationship with Little Mix's Perrie Edwards - a fellow product of the X Factor series in 2010.
But, after having a change of heart, he said today: 'Sorry, I was getting some abuse on twitter but I dont want to let my fans down. So I am back!! :) x'
His return was greeted by a predictably joyous response from fans of the band, while Zayn took the opportunity to showcase some of the supportive tweets he's received since rejoining the site.
One fan told him 'not to let them bring you down', adding: 'Always remember that there are so many people that love you and care for you.'
Another said: 'We're a family and we will always love you. no matter what.'
In a follow-up message, Zayn added his thanks to his die-hard fans, saying: 'Your support never ceases 2 amaze me.'
Yesterday Zayn was upset after being targetted by trolls - leading to his decision to end his use of the site - despite having more than 5million followers.
Telling his fans they could reach him using the One Direction account 'if they have something nice to say', he added: 'The reason I don't tweet as much as I used to is because I'm sick of all the useless opinions and hate that I get daily.
'Goodbye Twitter.'
Zayn's return coincides with members of the band, including the former outcast, teasing fans with a 'big announcement' to be revealed this evening.
Niall Horan and Liam Payne both referred to the as-yet unknown development, with the former adding in a tweet to his followers that he couldn't wait to share the news with Directioners who are undoubtedly on the edge of their seats.
He wrote earlier this week: 'Guys as you know we've been in studio a lot lately...Big announcement coming Thursday night! Can't wait to tell you all!'
The singer later added: 'Goodmorning! Today is an exciting day for a couple of reasons! Can't wait!'
His bandmate Liam had also been dropping hints on the social networking site, tweeting: 'guys, can't wait to let u all know the news. Only a few dayssss to wait'.
Today, Zayn added his own voice after his return to the site, saying he 'can't wait to share our big news'.
Given what Niall has said, the news could very well be the unveiling of a new single, or the title of their hotly anticipated second album.
Horan has previously made it known that they have taken time out of their global tour to work on some material for their next album, calling the new tracks 'cracking'.
He told MTV News: 'When we came back from Australia, we had a couple of weeks off and then we went straight into the studio to get cracking on the next album.
'We wrote an absolutely cracking song that we're all kind of very excited about.
'We've got to make a decision for a single soon, because we have to get a single out towards September.
'We want to have the most control that we possibly can of everything that we do.'
