Katy Perry insists she doesn't regret her marriage to Russell Brand, saying her divorce was a valuable life lesson.

The pop star yesterday told Aussie TV show Sunday Night that she was over her failed marriage – and wasn't looking back with rose-tinted glasses.

'There's nothing I regret because you can't buy a lesson and they are so valuable,' the 27-year-old said.

'I apply them to my life and I learn from them.'

The Part Of Me singer also spoke of the moment she learned Brand had filed for divorce, just minutes before a concert in Brazil.

'I had to get my s*** together,' she explained.

'You've gotta go onstage and give people the smile they came to see.'

Katy had previously resisted talking about her split from the comedian since Russell filed for divorce in December, but has opened up while promoting her new 3D film Part Of Me.

At last week's premiere Katy implied Russell had tried to make her choose between being a pop star and a wife, saying: 'I thought when I find that person that's going to be my life partner, I won't ever have to choose.

'They won't be threatened or have weird motives. Then I started to realise, that's not true.'

Russell have refused to comment on the reasons behind the marriage breakdown, but he insists the marriage wasn't a failure.

Last month he told ITV's Lorraine: 'Well it did work out in a way because you are married for some time, and that's really good, and then you're not married, and that's really good.

'You just have to have acceptance of things. She is a person that I love, but now this is a new time.'
