Rihanna has been comforted by Chris Brown's mum after taking to Twitter to reveal the death of her grandmother.

The We Found Love singer went online to reveal that her beloved gran had lost her battle with cancer, writing: 'Goodbye #grangranDOLLY get your beauty rest until I see you.'

As fans rushed to send messages of condolence, Chris Brown's mother Joyce Hawkins took to her own account to reach out to her son's former flame.

She wrote: 'Angel may God be with you and your family in your time of sorrow. Love you angel.'

It seems the pair are still close, with Rihanna quickly replying: 'Thank you! Love u mama.'

The 24-year-old then shared a series of intimate family snaps featuring her grandmother, who she called 'Gran Gran Dolly.'

Many of the photos featured the singer at Dolly's bed side, while some featured a much younger Rihanna posing with her grandmother.

One poignant picture simply featured the pair touching hands, while Rihanna posted another picture of her gran with the simple caption 'her smile'.

Just two weeks ago Rihanna had visited her gran in hospital, joking around and getting Dolly to wear her cap.

With the pair evidently so close it's no surprise that RiRi was struggling to process news of her grandmother's death, writing simply: 'F**k.'

The news could explain Rihanna's panned performance at Sweden's Peace & Love Festival, which saw the singer arrive on stage 45 minutes late.

Having dedicated a track to Norway after apparently mixing up the two Scandinavian countries, her distant demeanour prompted many fans to suggest the singer was on drugs.

One audience member writing on Twitter: 'Rihanna is blatantly under the influence of drugs and is allowed to perform in front of children and young people. It is disgusting and shameful. #pal12.'

Another added: 'Crowd walk-out from #Rihanna concert at #peaceandlove #pal12 #Sweden claiming she's too high to sing properly.'

But it looks as though the audience members were mistaken, with grief seemingly the reason Rihanna was not her usual self on stage.
