Girls Aloud are tipped to reunite for a special performance on Strictly Come Dancing, following months of speculation as to their future as a band.

While previous reports had suggested Cheryl Cole would perform on the show later in the series, it has now been suggested that bandmates Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts, Nadine Coyle and Kimberley Walsh - who is a contestant on the current series - will be joining her.

And it would not only mark the first time that the girls have performed together as a band since 2009, but would also be seen as a major coup in the show's continued bid to win the weekend ratings war against The X Factor.

'It's an amazing slap in the face for Simon Cowell and proves that Cheryl really wants Strictly to beat her old show,' a source told the Daily Star.

It had earlier been suggested that Cheryl was due to appear on the show in November, where she would perform her forthcoming single Screw You.

The singer was reunited with Nicola and Kimberley on Sunday night as they turned out to watch her at the O2, performing as part of her current A Million Lights tour. The trio were later photographed partying at nightclub Whisky Mist.

Meanwhile the odds on Lisa Riley being crowned winner of Strictly Come Dancing have been slashed following her sensational debut on Saturday night's show.

The Emmerdale actress, who had originally been an outsider to win the series, has seen her odds drop from 66-1 to 14-1 after she topped the judges' scoreboard for her cha cha cha with partner Robin Windsor.

William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams said: 'Lisa was a revelation on Saturday. We think she has a great chance of making reality TV history, defying the largest odds ever quoted to a potential winner.'

Louis Smith currently remains favourite to win at 9-4, followed by Kimberley Walsh at 10-3, Denise Van Outen at 7-2 and Victoria Pendleton and Sid Owen at 12-1.

Meanwhile Johnny Ball is 9-4  favourite to be the first celebrity eliminated from the series on Sunday night.
