EXCLUSIVE: Strictly Come Dancing star Michael Vaughan has dismissed claims the likes of Kimberley Walsh and Denise Van Outen have an unfair advantage within the competition because of their dancing backgrounds.
The retired England cricketer jokingly dismissed the idea that the girls had more experience coming into the show, saying that he too has cut his fair share of shapes in his time.
He told Metro: 'I mean, I've danced in nightclubs before. I've had a good dance as well.'
But for the 37-year-old sportsman, Strictly is about the entertainment factor and showing off what he's all about.
'It's television. My Jive wasn't technically brilliant but it seemed to bring a lot of joy to a lot of people,' he said.
'I've really enjoyed the last few weeks with the Jive and the Cha Cha Cha which were great for me to show my kind of character.'
But Vaughan - who was saved in last week's dance-off with Jerry Hall - reckons he could edge his way up the leader board with his Quickstep this week, providing everything goes to plan.
'I've done everything I possibly could this week to make sure I'm not in the bottom two,' he added.
'I'm taking this show seriously and working very hard. The Jive and the Cha Cha Cha are very very difficult but this week it's the Quickstep which has suited me more than the Latin ones.
'I'm hoping this week I can produce a better performance.'
But despite his determination to improve, Michael thinks winning the competition like fellow cricketers Mark Ramprakash and Darren Gough before him is still a long way off.
'I'm not thinking about anything other than this week. I don't think winning is anywhere near my kind of level at this stage.
'The competition is tough. It really is. I'm just looking at improving every single week and hopefully I can stay in long enough to get better and better' he added.
Michael and his dance partner Natalie Lowe will be dancing to That Old Black Magic on tonight's Halloween-themed special.
