X Factor finalist Chris Maloney has denied claims that he returned home to Liverpool during show rehearsals without telling anyone where he had gone.
Reports had suggested that the 34-year-old, previously accused of being a 'diva' backstage at the show, had upped and left unnanounced, missing a planned masterclass with Robbie Williams as a result.
But speaking on Saturday night's Xtra Factor Chris set the record straight, revealing that he had had permission to go home.
'That wasn't true,' he said of the reports. 'I did go to see my family because my nanna has not been very well so I went back, but I had the afternoon off.
Chris also revealed that he had had a difficult week leading up to Saturday night's show.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, he said: 'One of my best friends had a miscarriage, my nan hasn't been well and all this diva stuff is still going on in the papers.
'It's hard to keep my spirits high,' he added. 'I feel down but I'm trying to keep my focus.'
Saturday night's show saw Chris' performance of the Cutting Crew hit I Just Died In Your Arms tonight spark a war of words between Gary Barlow and Tulisa.
As the N-Dubz singer asked Gary, 'How many more 80s songs are you going to let him destroy?', he hit back with, I'm not sure what surprises me more - your comments or your fag-ash breath'.
Tulisa swiftly retorted, 'You'd better lay off that red wine Gary, I can smell it from here.'
