Katy Perry in awkward showdown with Russell Brand at LA Lakers game Oct 31st 2012, 11:33 Katy Perry was certainly given a fright on Halloween when she was reunited with ex-hubby Russell Brand in an awkward showdown at the basketball. Russell Brand and Katy Perry came face-to-face at an LA Lakers game (Picture: Xposure) Luckily for the ex-couple they were seated at opposite sides in VIP seating so they could pretend the cringeworthy run-in wasn't happening as the LA Lakers took on the Dallas Mavericks at the Staples Center. The pop babe had her dad Keith Hudson on hand for back up as she pointed and laughed at things in the arena in a bid to cover up dying inside. Does she know he's there? Katy looked nervous as she bit her nails at one point (Picture: Xposure) At one stage, the 28-year-old Wide Awake singer looked terrified biting her nails and it wasn't clear whether her nerves were sparked by Russ's attendance or the close scoreline. But she made sure to keep cool and calm as she downed pints of beer and got into the spirit of the game with excessive cheering. Katy soon looked relaxed though as she sipped on a pint of beer (Picture: Xposure) And she was soon cheering away with her dad too (Picture: Xposure) Perhaps aware there was a chance Russ would be at the game too, Katy had certainly dressed to impress in a fitted, purple leopard print dress. Russell, however, didn't leave much to be desired as he rocked up to the game, held at the Staples Center, in skinny jeans and a scruffy T-shirt with a black leather waistcoat. And Russ happily flaunted his new found friendship with our national treasure by joking around with the footballer, in the process proving he doesn't need his ex-wife to go up in the celeb world alphabet. It seems Brand is in with Beckham clan at the moment as earlier this week he was seen enjoying an LA Galaxy game with Victoria and Harper.
