The former home of Amy Winehouse is to be sold at auction after the only potential buyers to come forward turned out to be time wasters.

Initially the Camden Square townhouse was put on the market for an asking price of £2.7 million by the Back to Black singer's family, but it has failed to sell.

Instead the house, where the singer was found dead on July 23rd last year, will go up for auction with a guide price of £1.8 million.

McHugh & Co is to handle the sale at the Bafta headquarters on December 3rd.

A source told the London Evening Standard: 'Because of the nature of the house there were quite a few offers from people who weren't in a position to buy.

'There were lots of nosey time-wasters and no progress was being made, so they felt an auction would be the simplest way of selling the house. The auction will vet bidders and only allow people in who are in a position to buy.'

Winehouse was 27 at the time of her death and was found to have consumed large amounts of alcohol.

A term has emerged for musicians who have died through excessive alcohol and drug taking all at the same age, called the 27 Club.

As well as Winehouse, Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison are all on the list.
