Rylan Clark has been kicked off The X Factor after losing a head-to-head battle with Union J.
The 24-year-old's performance of Athlete's Wires was not enough to save him from the boot after weeks of criticism by judges and the public.
Only his mentor, Nicole Scherzinger, voted to keep him on the talent show. But he remained upbeat, insisting it had 'felt so right' to be on the ITV1 show.
'I've had seven bonus weeks on this competition,' he said.
'This show is one of the absolute pleasures to be a part of. It's been good.' Rylan even appeared to bury the hatchet with judge Gary Barlow after the pair had repeatedly clashed.
Take That frontman Barlow last week reportedly claimed Rylan was 'absolute sh***'. But the 41-year-old judge – who voted to keep boyband Union J on the show, told him: 'None of it's been personal, we haven't taken any of it off the stage.' He added it had been 'good fun'.
Fellow judges Louis Walsh and Tulisa Contostavlos also selected Union J over Rylan. Louis, 60, called Rylan a 'fantastic guy' but added Union J – who he mentors – were the 'next big boy band'.
Tulisa agreed they had the most 'potential to sell records'. Union J had performed Run by Snow Patrol after they received the fewest public votes after Saturday night's show along with Rylan.
But now they progress to this weekend's semi-final along with James Arthur, Christopher Maloney and Jahmene Douglas.
Singers Bruno Mars and X Factor regular Rihanna were the star names to perform live last night.
