Christopher Maloney put on a brave face as he headed home to Liverpool for a break from his hectic X Factor schedule days after he became the victim of vile death threats.

The Twitter threats came after he made it through to this weekend's X Factor show.

He was booed as show favourites Ella Henderson and James Arthur fell into the bottom two while he sailed through to the quarter finals.

Chris was then bombarded with nasty messages on Twitter urging him to commit suicide forcing him to tell his followers he was going to take a break from the social networking site.

On Tuesday he wrote: 'Ello guys, taking a break from twitter for a bit, need to concentrate on my songs for this week. Ope u understand, thanks 4 ur support. Xx.'

One nasty user wrote: 'CHRISTOPHER MALONEY KILL YOURSELF,' while another tweeted: 'Oh my god I feel to cry. I'm gobsmacked. Christopher maloney I will kill you in ur sleep.'

But yesterday he was spotted in Liverpool taking a break from show rehearsals to visit his mum Pat at the family home.

His trip home comes as he hit out at the internet bullies, admitting his family have been deeply affected by it.

He is reported as saying: 'It's a singing competition, there is no need for death threats.

'It's not nice for me or my family. My nan has been really upset by it all.

'Someone has gone out of the show who was the favourite but that is because the public voted.'

A spokesperson for The X Factor earlier this week promised they are offering Maloney full support though.

They said: 'The welfare of our contestants is our key priority and we work with them to provide what support is needed.'

It is thought the police were also informed of the tweets by the ITV show's bosses.
