Denise Van Outen is worried her Strictly Come Dancing days are numbered after her professional dance partner James Jordan injured his ankle.

The TV star has been forced to work with stand-in dancer Ian Waite as James has been made to pull out of rehearsals.

James suffered the injury before last Saturday's live show when he tripped up some steps outside the BBC Television Centre.

Luckily it didn't affect the evening's routine as the couple scored an impressive 35 points out of a possible 40, shooting them straight to the top of the leaderboard.

Unfortunately though, it seems the dance worsened his ankle with show bosses even fearing he'd broken it.

Luckily, x-rays showed it wasn't broken and are to let him know when he can start up training again.

A source told The Sun: 'No one realised how bad James' ankle was until after Saturday's show. He can barely walk let alone dance.

'Ian is a great dancer and James is directing them — but it's not the same.

'Denise is really worried about him, she can't believe how much pain he's in – and how much groaning he's doing.'

Denise has plenty of reason to worry though as when former Strictly dancers Sid Owen and Johnny Ball were forced to practice with stand-in professionals when their partners were unable to perform, they both left the series that week.

James and Denise seem to have been plagued with injuries so far.

Earlier in the series James broke his nose during rehearsals with his wife - and professional dancer - Ola for a group dance and Denise also thought she'd have to quit the competition when she suffered whiplash.

In further bad news for the bubbly blonde, her odds of winning the show have taken a turn for the worse, now standing at 11/4.

She stands in second place just below Louis Smith who is an even chance of being crowned the ballroom winner.

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: 'Denise and James are the perfect pairing but if she has to dance with another partner we're anticipating she may slip down the leaderboard and that's reflected in her odds.'
