Kiefer Sutherland is to star on the big screen with his father, Donald, for the first time.
The 45-year-old and Donald, 77, will play a father and son in a Western – as yet untitled – with shooting to begin in Canada in April.
'It's about a son coming home from the Civil War after his mother has died,' Kiefer said.
'It's a very beautiful story and I'm very excited – and nervous – about doing it.' The star of 24 said he was 18 before he realised the quality of his father's work.
'In one weekend, I watched his films. Before that, I didn't know how good he was. I knew then that was the sort of actor I wanted to be,' he said.
Sutherland Jr. is most closely associated with his role in 24, for which he won an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series and he currently appears in Fox show Touch.
Donald is best known to younger audiences for his role as President Snow in The Hunger Games film franchise.
