Tulisa Contostavlos' smoking habit has reportedly caused further X Factor controversy after producers received a warning about her lighting up backstage.

The N-Dubz singer has a reputation for secretly smoking in her dressing room at the Wembley Studios where the show is filmed.

However show bosses are set to clamp down on her backstage behaviour after receiving a letter from the local council about her habit - which accused them of breaking the 2006 Health Act which bans smoking in a place of work.

Reports suggest the singer could face a fine for her behaviour, with a source telling The Sun, 'Bosses aren't happy that she's causing trouble.'

Tulisa's smoking caused controversy earlier in the series when Gary Barlow accused the singer of having 'fag ash breath' after she criticised Christopher Maloney.

Barlow later apologised to Tulisa for the jibe, saying, 'You have the freedom to be as personal as you like for the rest of the series - insult me.'

The 24-year-old later hit back at Barlow by appearing on the results show sporting a very visible nicotine patch.

Meanwhile, further trouble has hit the show after the finalists complained about being paid just £50 a week to perform.

Controversial singer Rylan Clark - who once again escaped the bottom two on Sunday night - was heard to say: 'It's not even enough to cover one of my waxes.'

However a show source told The Sun that producers provided food and accommodation in addition to the fee and added: 'The X Factor is a talent show and is not considered employment.'
