Robbie Williams has said Simon Cowell should feel 'very lucky' if Gary Barlow decides to return to The X Factor next year.
The Take That star defended his bandmate as Gary was forced to deny he has secretly quit the Saturday night contest after coming to a 'mutual decision' with Si.
The Candy singer revealed his good chum is calling the shots and defended his judging performance, despite a shocking rating plunge down to 7.6million viewers.
'I know he wanted to come back this year and put his stamp on it and I think he's done that and I think he's done that very well,' Robbie told Metro.
'I think he's obviously the main judge and he's got a valid opinion, if I need to go somewhere for advice Gary's the first port of call.'
Hinting Gaz still may walk, Williams said 'if he comes back, The X Factor will be very lucky to have him, if he doesn't, I'm sure he'll find something to do. Gary's his own man.'
Barlow, 41, was forced to issue a statement saying he 'has no plans to quit The X Factor' after it was claimed Louis Walsh begged Simon Cowell to return to save the show.
As for Robbie, he says he'll only return to the show this year himself if Kylie doesn't step in to sing with his favourite act Rylan Clark.
'If Rylan does get to the final then maybe it will be me (singing with him). I wouldn't mind. I'd love that, I love Rylan. I think Kylie Minogue might do a better job with Rylan because I think she's dancey and poppy but if needs be I'll turn up if they're short.'
If he is called on, the 38-year-old said: '[We'd sing] Islands In The Stream which is not very Rylan but I think Islands In The Stream with me and Rylan would be very entertaining, a disco version of Rylan's In The Stream, you heard it here folks.'
