Rylan Clark's chest infection throws spanner in works for X Factor results

If Rylan Clark falls into the bottom two on tonight's X Factor, his chances of coming out victorious are slim as he has revealed he is suffering from a nasty chest infection.

The flamboyant star impressed judges – minus Gary – with two performances last night for the Abba and Motown week.

But this morning the 24-year-old has woken up to get rehearsing for tonight's show feeling rather poorly.

He took to his Twitter account to inform his followers too.

He tweeted: 'Morning guys just sound checking . Got a chest infection :-( not good but still going! Hope your all ok #AskRylan later today xxx.'

His chest infection means if Rylan does fall into the bottom two when he goes up against Jahmene Douglas, James Arthur, Union J and Christopher Maloney in tonight's show, he may have a struggle on his hands in the sing-off.

And if his voice is affected by his illness, it could also spell trouble for the group song.

Rylan opened last night's show with his rendition of Abba's Mamma Mia!.

And while judges Louis Walsh, Tulisa Contostavlos and his mentor Nicole Scherzinger heaped praise on Rylan for his entertaining routines, Gary wasn't quite as complimentary.

However, in a surprising turn of events, Barlow did offer Rylan an olive branch by conceding to the fact he's still in the competition and praising him for getting this far.

'We need to officially declare checkmate between you and I now. It's not my kind of thing, but you're still here. I have to respect that,' Barlow told Rylan.

But by the time his second song came around, of which Rylan did a medley for Motown week, Gary said to him: 'Rylan once tonight is one thing, but twice in one night.

'Quite Eurovision that but actually I loved the visuals you used, quite creative that. But as I said, too Eurovisiony for me.'

Despite Gary's critique, Rylan took to Twitter to thank his fans who are voting for him, writing: 'Thanks for everyone's support tonight means the world xxx.'

Meanwhile, Nicole has sent out a plea to viewers to vote for her boys James, Jahmene and Rylan ahead of the results tonight.

She tweeted this morning: 'Today's the day, Pls make sure u vote for my #Scherzyboyz @RylanClark @JamesArthur23 @JahmeneDouglas THANKU 2 the believers, we luv u! Xo.'
