EXCLUSIVE: X Factor boyband Union J say their bandmate Jaymi Hensley's brave coming out battle inspired their survival on the show over the weekend.
Jaymi, 22, came out as gay at the weekend, declaring 'every boyband has one'.
He revealed he asked his mentor Louis Walsh for advice about whether he should come out publicly – and he was all for it.
Jaymi said: 'I spoke to Louis about this and he said, "put it this way, both of my big boybands had a gay member in them." So he said it fits the formula quite well!
'Every boyband has got to have a gay one! And Louis just said "do it",' Jaymi added to The Sun.
Jaymi's bandmates also rallied behind the singer after their performance of Carly Rae Jespson's Call Me Maybe on Saturday night.
Supporting his bandmate's bold move, Josh Cuthbert, 20, told Metro: 'It's been a tough week but we're so proud of Jaymi. He's so brave.
'It inspired our performance and it will help out other people having a tough time and give them courage.'
Jaymi told how he came out to his friends and family at the age of 14 and has had a boyfriend for the past three years, who he wants to marry and have children with.
